Greatest sporting achievement:
Being selected for and representing Australia at the 2014 Sky Running Championships.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given:
If it’s hurting you….it must be KILLING them!
Favourite Endura product and why:
Vanilla Gel - simple taste that I can still enjoy after hours of racing.
How did you get into your chosen sport?
I started running for fitness and weight loss originally, but it wasn’t until my wife suggested we take on the The North Face 100 together in 2010 that I really fell in love with the sport.
How important is diet and sports nutrition supplements to your performance?
Monitoring my diet and using sport nutrition supplements are very important in triathlon as it is a very demanding and over use sport so we need lots of energy to keep performing at our best. We also need to stay healthy and implement the appropriate recovery strategies to ensure we can get the best out of ourselves.
What do you normally eat and drink on a typical training day?
Coffee (no food before my session), and then Endura Gels/Rehydration during sessions 90 min-3 hrs long, plus Optimizer for sessions 3hr+. For recovery I use Optimizer with milk to refuel for the next day. This is after every session, no matter how long.
Where will we find you when you are not training or competing?
Pushing my daughter in the pram next to my wife as she trains for her next race OR in a café drinking the best coffee the Gold Coast has to offer.
What is your best training tip?
Every training session has a specific purpose. Make sure you know what you need to achieve from it before you set off in the morning and don’t go outside these goals (i.e. don’t run recovery sessions too fast or speed sessions too slow).
Who inspires you and why?
My wife. Her determination, perseverance and endurance is truly impressive and no matter what happens she never complains!
How long would you normally spend training each week?
What is your favourite 'before race' meal?
The night before is always a pasta of some type and the morning of I have two bananas and a coffee.
Best nutritional advice?
Best piece of nutrition advice Keep it simple and race with what you have trained with.
How do you stay motivated with training?
By setting small achievable goals each month/week and even in each session.
